Sustainability: caring for our special location.
Easton Bavents is a very special place where nature of all variety flourishes. We aim to nurture this as best we can and hope our guests love it as much as we do. We are very aware, given the situation of coastal erosion here, of the impact that man has on our planet and we work hard to do what we can to minimise any damage and increase our positive impacts.
Here are some tips on how you can do your bit to help during your stay…

Where you can please use local products and services. They give you a flavour of the area and help support our communities. We are fortunate to have some great producers of food and drink locally
EXPLORING BY CAR
We encourage you during your stay to leave the car parked and explore on foot or bicycle locally as beach walks are fantastic and right on your doorstep
SAVE PRECIOUS RESOURCES
Utilities are included during your stay but please think about the environment and turn off lights when not being used – keeping light levels to a minimum will help our resident bats and insects to flourish. The water here is safe to drink so there is no need to buy plastic bottles of drinking water.
FOLLOW THE COUNTRYSIDE CODE
Please respect the local community and other people using the outdoors. Remember your actions can affect people’s lives and livelihoods.
Our Sustainability & Green Initiatives
We feel lucky to live in such a special location and we have strived to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible by:
Our newer properties are heated (and cooled) by air source heat pumps. We plan to adapt other properties to air source going forward and install more solar generation on the farm
Our properties are all highly insulated and use low energy lightbulbs
We use environmentally-friendly products for cleaning
All properties have a recycling container in addition to the general waste bin – we collect general recycling and glass at the central reception area for processing
As long term electric car owners ourselves, we have a car charger for guests use at the Cartlodge
We are in the process of setting up online guest books so we can remove the need for paper versions – watch this space!
Natural Environment
We believe in keeping as much of Easton Bavents as natural as possible. We leave large areas just for nature and avoid cutting hedges and verges until they begin to impede access down the track! We are also working with ecologists to enhance the biodiversity and plant trees/hedges/wild bird and insect mixes. We hope you don’t find it too scruffy – we are not believers in manicured lawns and hedges as these are not what wildlife love!
We have banished single use plastic ‘tiny toiletries’ and provide a range of sustainable toiletries for guests to use in refillable glass bottles. Toiletries are supplied by Fill Refill ‘the original zero waste closed loop refill company’. All products are vegan, cruelty free and biodegradable and are made using natural products, no harsh chemicals or dyes.
We are not on mains drains but have a sewage treatment plant which breaks down waste in an environmentally sensitive way so we need to be careful what goes down the sink and the toilet. We use environmentally-friendly cleaning products and ask that you refrain from putting anything other than number 1’s and 2’s and toilet paper down the loo! Please place everything else in the bin provided.
